Dave's Bone Marrow Transplant

Donation protected
In 2010 our friend, David Baum, a West Virginia University and Kappa Alpha fraternity Alumni, had major brain surgery that removed a large benign tumor.  While recovering, a regular blood test later in 2011 showed Dave was in the late stages of Multiple Myeloma, a cancer of the blood system which is manageable with chemotherapy and radiation.

After many months of the expensive treatments, Dave’s health improved enough to qualify for a bone marrow transplant at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital.  After several weeks of hospitalization and a long recovery at home, Dave's bone marrow transplant was a success, placing him in remission. Dave then took an oral chemo drug to keep the cancer away for a few years.

In November 2015, blood tests showed the Multiple Myeloma cancer started to return. His doctors used newly developed chemotherapy drugs that stopped the spread of Dave's cancer. This success of the new drugs will let Dave receive a second bone marrow transplant - now called a stem cell transplant, in the next week at the hospital at Penn.

We are asking for your help with Dave’s “GoFundMe” to help ease the financial burden his second stem cell transplant and ongoing chemo.

Thanks for being part of the effort to help Dave get into remission again. Help spread the word  for a speedy recovery!
