#AMAZING GRACE
This is a love story. It is about a boy and a girl who met in grade school in a small town in southern Minnesota. They were married and moved to the 'big city' to start a family. They had one son, one daughter and two dogs. They both had good jobs doing what they loved......then things changed...
In the spring of 2016, Dave and Cindy noticed small signs of forgetfulness in Cindy. They were hopeful it was just normal life stressors, since we all forget things from time to time. In the back of their minds, they knew Cindy's family history and were more watchful. Her mother and brother had suffered from Alzheimer's and it runs in Cindy's family.
Throughout the summer of 2016, Dave and Cindy spent many hours traveling to and from The Mayo Clinic in Rochester and countless hours of doctor visits.
Eventually, Cindy was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. The disease is progressive and it destroys quickly.
Cindy is a devoted wife and wonderful mother. She has a sweet, quiet, and calm demeanor. Cindy has always been a strong Christian, and has brought several "lost souls" to Christ(an old alcoholic man in the neighborhood, a recovering alcoholic woman whose family had abandoned her, and a teenage girl who was heading down the wrong path). She always takes care of others who need help. She will anonymously send money to people she knows are struggling and she loves visiting nursing homes. She has showed her generosity by bringing a homeless woman into their home in the winter time. SHE ALWAYS PUTS OTHERS FIRST! Cindy is a first class lady.
Eventually, Dave and his family made the choice to find a caring facility for Cindy. They found a wonderful home in Belle Plaine, which is where Dave and Cindy were childhood sweethearts and were married! It is home to many family members so they are able to visit her often.
Recently, Cindy has had some serious advances in the disease and has needed additional care.
Dave has been a warrior throughout this difficult journey. He is a strong husband and father. He has amazing strength and love for his wife. With the help of their son, Tony, his wife, Taylor, and Dave and Cindy's daughter, Courtney, they are working together to provide the best care possible for Cindy.
Dave continues to teach middle school literature at St. Joseph's Catholic School in West St. Paul. He is a mentor to many students and shares his love of reading.
Ask any student who their favorite middle school teachers are/were and Dave Schultz will be at the top of the list. He is the first person to offer help if needed. He is adored by all!
As their journey continues, Dave and Cindy, and their family, need our help. It has been exhausting for Dave, who continues to work and yet drives to Belle Plaine in the evenings to be with Cindy. It has been a financial struggle as well. The numerous doctor visits and the cost of home care has taken a devastating toll on the family and their finances.
We ask for your help! The Schultz family have touched so many lives! They are kind, caring people who deserve to be shown the love and support we feel for them. Please consider donating!! Take the time NOW! Pass the WORD! Share the story!
