Dave Trudell needs your help

Update from Dave on Tuesday, May 24:

Here is a update on my status…..TODAY I had my home inspection to wrap up any necessary modifications with four of the most awesome therapists that push me each day. In conclusion of the inspection I received great news as they’ve revised my discharge date which is now set for. May 31. What may go down as the longest Spring break ski trip in history is finally coming to a conclusion. What started out as a Spring Ski vacation with my pal Phil (Big Randy) from No laying up turned into a nightmarish experience with my health which I could have never expected. And that long drive thru the Eisenhower Tunnel just outside of Denver headed to Steamboat Springs. And like a twilight zone episode. When we exited out on the other side, I Would be a passenger for this long journey and another tunnel what would be a life changing trip. I had no idea that the next tunnel to travel would be so long and slow going and so very dark at times...especially mornings. I finally do see light at the end of this tunnel and I’m so grateful I’ll get to it and enjoy it with each and every one of you. I will say my recovery intially is going well and I will continue to work with in home a physical therapy then move to outpatient until I can satisfy myself with my full recovery. I’m not content on just being more capable physically. And mentally as I’m hopeful for more ski trips and plenty of fishing trips. Ample rounds of golf but it’s been a long journey and I can ‘t thank my all of my friends enough for all their support and the time they have sacrificed to help me during this tough time. And thanks to each and every one of you for you very generous donations to them go Fund me account in hopes to make my transition to “normal life and normal living”more seamless..from the number of get well cards and all the special hand written notes included in each an every card. All the visitors was absolutely encouraging and the nursing staff was overwhelmed with the number of guests I had. I don’t know how I can ever repay everyone for Their time and generosity, but if you ever need help with something or simply need a friendly voice of reason, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me. This journey has tested me mentally, and here I thought the mental side of golf was tough. Pffff…..when I play my next round of golf knowing the swing or next stroke I take will have so very little meaning in the overall aspect of my. life. I received so many words of encouragement between all the tears I shed...which have been many. Many are simply tears of gratitude for what each of you have done for me. And throughout those dark times your words sure helped me in my initial recovery as I still have more work to do to. Although it was very challenging it was made much easier knowing the support I had.. I hope when we cross paths next may well be at The Heather Golf Shop at The Highlands of Harbor Springs. And I am so looking forward forward to getting back soon. Thank you!

Dave suffered from a heart attack on March 24 while driving home from a ski trip at Steamboat Springs. He was admitted to the hospital in Omaha, where he had heart surgery and returned home on March 28. On the morning of Tuesday, March 29, a blood clot traveled to Dave's brain, and he had a massive stroke that affected the left side of his body.

Dave spent three weeks at McLaren Acute Rehab and was transferred to Bay Bluffs in Harbor Springs for continued physical therapy. The good news is that Dave can recover from this tragic incident with ongoing physical therapy and hard work. However, to get Dave back into his home, he needs your help to live in a safe environment where he can receive continued health care.

The following is a list of David's immediate needs.
  • Fund physical therapy costs so that Dave can regain use of his left leg and arm.
  • Purchase orthopedic leg and arm devices
  • Purchase and installation of safety bars in bathroom and kitchen areas
  • Retrofit bathroom/shower so that they are handicap accessible
  • Change flooring, so it is more handicap friendly
  • Installation of a first-floor laundry area
  • Retrofit entrances so that they are handicap accessible
  • Purchase and install smart technology devices for Dave's safety
  • Fund in home health care aids and on-going physical therapy
Dave needs your help. Please donate generously.
