Anyone who grew up in Lake Country knows Dave and Nikki. Maybe you played hockey or ball with him, or she helped you at the bank. She's the gregarious ginger and he was the boy she waited 7 years to notice her. They have a life full of love and laughs. They make any party worth being at. The loves of their lives are their two daughters: Keslyn (11) and Phoebe (8).
On Sunday, July 16, Dave started feeling off. He has been working through some health issues for the last few years, so it was easy to brush off as just a "bad day". However on Monday, he awoke from a nap and knew something was wrong. He asked his dad to take him to the ER, where he was admitted and they started running tests. We all waited to hear the verdict - never once expecting to hear what they finally told us.
Dave has a severe case of necrotizing fasciitis. It has spread throughout his abdomen. He was rushed into surgery at 1am. By 5am, July 18th, he was out and the news was grim. His family was called in and he has been kept in a deep state of sedation so that he is comfortable.
Dave has been off work dealing with health issues for the last 3 years. Nikki runs a day home, which is their primary source of income.
Obviously we want her and the girls to feel safe and secure as they take these next steps and walk this new path. Money should be the last thing they have to worry about.
Every dollar helps. If you only have a toonie - it will help.
Hug your family tight tonight. The last thing Dave said before he went into surgery was that he needed to get back to his girls. They are his world.
We will update everyone as further information comes available.
