On April 7, 2018, Dave Mills passed away in his sleep. At the time of his passing, Dave was seeking compensation from Veterans Affairs for cancer caused by exposure to Agent Orange. Dave Mills was an American Hero that proudly served his country for 13 years. During the Vietnam War, while stationed in South Korea, he experienced repeated and continued exposure to Agent Orange. while working as a helicopter mechanic specializing in the repair of various models of the Huey helicopters.
Although Dave was able to prove exposure to Agent Orange and cancer caused by the exposure, Veterans Affairs prolonged their determination several times over the past 4 years. As a result the VA will not provide full funding for his memorial service. Had Dave won his claim, he would have been provided a hero's service, at not cost to his family.
After contacting Veterans' Affairs to make arrangements, Dave's son was informed that he would be able to apply for reimbursement of approximately $300.00, to aid in the cost of cremation, and a plaque to be placed at the National Memorial Cemetery in Arizona. This amount is less than 10% of the cost for a modest memorial service.
