Dave Gould's 3-peak challenge

Many of you will know and remember our good friend, Dave Gould.

Dave passed away in January 2024 after a battle with cancer. One thing Dave enjoyed in the last few years of his life was walking and especially walking the dogs. His favourite place was a local spot called The Outwoods.

In his last few weeks, Dave asked for a bench to be placed on the hill in his memory.

Scooterists are great at sticking together and helping out where possible. Enter eight middle-aged, mostly unfit, never-seen-a-hill drinking buddies. These lads decided to make sure Dave got his bench by doing a sponsored walk. Not just any walk though, this idea - dreamt up in one of Dave's favourite pubs - The Old English Gentleman or ‘OEG’ - is an epic 3-peaks challenge.

Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike & Snowdon

The lads, guided by fellow Blazing Glory club member (and mountain leader) Johnny Walker, plus scooterist (and mountain leader) Steve Begley will be taking on the 3 highest peaks in Scotland, England and Wales over the course of a weekend in August. This is a huge challenge both mentally and physically, especially for the lads who didn't even own a pair of boots until a few weeks ago! Not only will they be walking the 3 highest mountains but they'll also have lots of time travelling between them in a cosy minibus. Adey will be driving the minibus and waiting around for hours and hours whilst the others are walking.

Doing one mountain is a challenge for a fairly fit person, doing 3 for eight unfit pub-loving chaps is a proper test of mind over matter.

Let's see how they get on during the first weekend in September.

Update Dave's lad joins...

Dave's lad, Oliver Gould has decided he wants to do the challenge in memory of his dad.

Fundraising?

All money raised will go towards Dave's bench and the fees for putting it on site. Any money raised above the target will go to Cancer Research and a local kids' charity - Reverse Retts.
