Dave Fredrick (father of 5 children, and former FireFighter EMT) walked in for neurosurgery on May 20, 2014 and awoke from a coma 19 days later barely able to move and unable to speak. He had had a massive anoxic brain injury (lack of oxygen to the brain). We did 5 months of intense rehab in Atlanta at Shepherd Center and Shepherd Pathways in 2014 before coming home for outpatient therapy only to find that another neurosurgery was required.
We have completed the third surgery and are still hoping for some more improvements to the quality of life we now have.
Currently, Dave can take a few steps using a brace and walker on good days, cannot sit himself up in bed unassisted, is fed through a tube placed directly into his stomach, his speech, swallowing and everything have severe impairments.
I (Mindi - spouse) have been working part time from home as I attempt to care for him 24/7 along with being mom to our five children (currently ages 7-18).
We would like to cover expenses as we continue through this, provide any needed medical equipment such as lifts, handicap modifications, and God willing, a vehicle where he will be able to go out and about in his power chair, rather than my daughter or myself lifting him from manual chair to vehicle and back.
Please pray and pass this on.For more of the story including past updates...
