Dave Dy's Hospital Fund

Hello, my name is Mary Kaitlin "Kate" Dy. I am the eldest daughter of Dave Dy.

My father, Dave Dy, has recently experienced a massive stroke. According to the neurosurgeon, this event could have been fatal. He is presently hospitalized and is in critical condition. He is the breadwinner of the family and handles all of our family finances. I am still in college and my younger sister is still in high school. Although my Mom is working, she has a chronic autoimmune disease, Lupus, and gets fatigued easily. I see her every night getting more and more flare ups, getting overwhelmed, and calls in sick often now.

My Dad always loved working with the multiple hospitals and clinics he went to. I know him to be extremely hardworking, very friendly towards patients, and approachable towards colleagues. He is always a ray of sunshine wherever he goes, never a dull moment in his presence. It breaks my heart to see my Dad who was always physically fit and active to suffer like this. If you know my Dad Dave, you know that he was always the one who helped others when they needed it the most, and would rarely ask for your help.

The month that my Dad has spent in the hospital was difficult, but the next couple of months will be harder with his recovery. He will need extensive acute rehab care. This means he is going to require a lot of work with multiple therapists (speech therapy to combat his vocal cord paralysis, physical and occupational therapy to retrain basics motor skills, and psychotherapy to deal with emotional blunting and depression).
