Dave Beatty (Island Dave) - Needs $$ for Medical

My name is Sandra Wright. I live in Gananoque. Dave has been a family friend for years. He previously worked with my brother-in-law Peter Amo in the Parks department of the City of Brockville. He is now a retired resident of Brockville. Dave is a kind and caring person. I have recently been made aware of his serious medical condition in a hospital clinic in Mexico while on vacation and decided to set up a GOFUNDME page to help. I am sharing an update of his condition below by friends Tom Walsh and Jeff Dowel who flew down to be with him. Dave is in desperate need of monies to continue with the medical care to get better to return to Canada. Privately, $8500 has been raised that has just covered expenses from last week. But much more is needed to continue with the care he needs to get well enough to travel back to Canada. THAT IS WHY THIS GOFUNDME PAGE HAS BEEN SET UP. Dear Friends of Dave,

On Friday, March 18th, Dave suffered a serious accident while vacationing solo in Mexico, leaving him with six fractured ribs and a punctured lung. His friend Peter Amo was contacted in Canada and made aware of his grave situation and that he needed help. Close friends Tom Walsh and Jeff Dowel flew down to Mexico on Tuesday, March 22nd to be with Dave and accompany him back to Canada. On Thursday, the lung had expanded and the drain was no longer needed. However he continued to be confused and has been medicated accordingly. On Friday morning (March 25) Dave suffered a heart attack and after 10 minutes the medical team, working frantically, got his heart working again.

Dave is currently on a mechanical ventilator, has had a double blood transfusion, is heavily sedated and his condition has stabilized. He is getting good medical care.

It's been a roller coaster of a ride but Dave, we feel, is determined to recover his health.

His insurance policy has been his friends and acquaintances who have supported him generously. About $8500 has been raised to date, which is close to what has been spent up to today. The short / medium term prognosis is unknown for Dave however his vital signs had improved this evening (Friday). We are dealing with many unknowns, except for one, that without additional funding it will be difficult to maintain the care he is receiving.
