Bring our Native Healing Sisterhood Group To D.C.!

Tax deductible
DAUGHTERS OF TRADITION ARE GOING TO WASHINGTON D.C. !
Experiences that matter

Since 2017, the Daughters of Tradition (DOT) group has been building sisterhood to buffer the impact and exposure to violence. This is a violence prevention, intervention, and restorative health justice program.

This collective is an intergenerational and Indigenous group that consists of multiple ages: Little Sisters (4-6 years), Big Sisters (7-11 years), Mentors (12-13 years), and Ambassadors (14-18 years). The group has grown to over 30 girls with 15 girls  (Mentors + Ambassadors) and their families/chaperones traveling with our DOT facilitators/staff to Washington, D.C.  Pictured above is a small group of our girls with our CEO & Founder & DOT facilitator, Lea S. Denny, who started the group to promote community healing and sisterhood.

In total, we have 30 going on this trip! This journey to D.C. is part of our commitment to create social justice action around healing and mental health needs in our community. All expenses for our girls and their families are provided through the funding that we raise and every dollar makes a difference in brining them there!

We invite you to support their journey. So far with the gracious donations from the Forest County Potawatomi Nation and fundraisers we have raised $20,000 and are about half way to our goal of $45,000 to bring our group of 30 to D.C. and cover all expenses for a week!

The DOT Sisters learn about mental health, cultural wellness practices, relational health,  healing practices, advocacy, stewardship, and social justice skills to bring into their homes, schools, and communities.

Among the many indigenous cultural teachings that DOT Sisters learn and practice together are the Ojibwa Grandfather Seven-Sacred Teachings: Love, Respect, Humility, Honesty, Truth, Wisdom, and Courage. As part of their DOT program journey, they learn to demonstrate and embody these sacred teachings in all areas of their life.

As the next phase of their leadership and advocacy development, the DOT mentors and ambassadors will be meeting with national leaders, visionaries, and community organizers in Washington D.C August 14-19, 2022!

To prepare their voices for Washington D.C., they created a podcast called N8V-T (Native Tea) and interviewed local and national indigenous female leaders on their thoughts and wisdoms on mental health including Dr. Bonnie Duran; Dr. Jeneile Luebke, post-doctoral nurse research associate at University of Wisconsin-Madison; Cheryl Stevens, Oneida Nation's Grants Office Director and Executive Manager of the Oneida Youth Leadership Institute; and Katrina Brook Flores, Xicanx multimedia and multi-practice artist.  They have three more podcasts left to do before their trip, stay tuned!

The podcast is now available on all major podcast platforms.  https://anchor.fm/hir-wellness-institute

Starting this June we will be hosting a LIVE on our main Facebook page and share regular updates and news about their progress and plan to visit our nation's capital!

The girls will be starting a sewing circle this June  to make ribbon skirts with community members and to wear these skirts throughout their time in D.C.  They have received all materials for their skirts from generous donations from our Community.

Support our Indigenous girls group and together we will raise the frequency, vibration, and heart message that they have on healing for our communities and future generations. Donate to their trip today!

All donations go to funding their trip. For more questions about donations and sponsorship, please reach out to our COO, Deanna Schwenner at [email redacted].
