Team Alisha, Alisha Fowler - Gordon is a 38-year-old mother to 2 beautiful children. As many of you know Alisha Gordon had a hemorrhagic stroke 4/15/2023 and was held at NEGMC in ICU. The doctor had said that she will not be able to survive because the stroke was too severe without a drain when family first arrived at the hospital. We waited all night to the next morning and were told it would be too much of a risk and damage if drain was placed! The neurosurgeons reached out to colleagues who had more knowledge of “moyamoya disease” to see what the options were for placing a drain. Without the drain there was 0 hope for Alisha at this point .
- A little of Alishas history , Alisha was first diagnosed with Moyamoya syndrome or disease as a teen .
Moyamoya disease is a progressive blood vessel disorder where the carotid arteries in the brain become narrowed, eventually leading to complete blockages, significantly reducing blood flow to the brain. This usually causes stroke or recurrent transient ischemic attacks (TIA), especially in children. Moyamoya is a Japanese term for Puff of Smoke, which is what the collaterals look like on the MRI/MRA.
This was only the beginning of the story, what followed was a series of tests, genetic testing, lumbar punctures, MRI/MRA’s, CT Scans, and finally, a brain biopsy which was done as a teen when first informed of the information. Alisha has undergone multiple surgeries that had took the blood vessels to produce oxygen to her Brian and brought them outside of her skull. According to Johns Hopkins, only one in a million people have this condition, usually seen in people of Asian descent. This condition can affect the functioning of the brain and can cause bleeding and strokes.
- Fast forwarding Alisha who is 39 years old now was held in the ICU until May 22,2023 and was shipped to the Shepard center for rehab(where she currently is) Alishas current state is still in critical condition, as of today she still has 0 movement on her left side. We have a date Aug 1,2023 of hoping to bring her home, a lot of modifications that need to be made for her to even be able to come home . Alisha is facing a long and challenging road to recovery.
We appeal to your kindness and generosity in extending help to Alisha and her kids during these challenging times. Alisha was a homeschool teacher to her kids and a stay at home wife. This will be a long, difficult, exhausting journey for her and her family. Your generous donation will help with medical bills that will accumulate over the next several months/years, travel costs for the family to be with Alisha while she is in the hospital and the doctor’s appointments / rehab that she will have in the future. Your donations will also help support her children during this time that she is unable to work/educate them. Alisha is adored by many. She loves the Lord , being in her church singing in the choir and teaching the word to our children but unfortunately, she will never be able to return to the work she did prior to this shocking and devastating health-related event. Alisha spent most of her time devoting her life to God and his work, educating her kids and spending the most time with them and doing anything that involved being in church. She loves and adores her children, and she is a great mother/teacher. Alisha has a big heart and would go out of her way to help anyone in need. Now we are asking for that help in return. No amount is too small, and any amount is a true blessing. Most importantly, we hope that you will say a prayer for Alishas journey to recovery.
