Dau Akueng

I, Akolda Bil, am the uncle of Dau Akueng, whose life was tragically taken on Saturday 7th 2025 at age 15.

Dau is the precious son of Sabena and Elbino, the annoying but loyal younger brother of Ayana, and caring older brother to Anok and Atong. He was beloved by his family and many friends, and was a respected member of many communities from the Fitzroy and Collingwood flats where he grew up, his school in Melton, and to the basketball clubs where he fulfilled his passion for the sport. Dau left a positive impact on everyone around him, and he will be missed by many. He will be remembered for his bright smile, kindness, wit, and basketball and music talents.

Dau’s unfair passing has left our family, his friends and community in despair. We are grieving his loss and grappling with how to come to terms with the unprovoked violence that cut his life short. We hope to organise a memorial for Dau to keep his memory alive and allow for family, friends, and community to visit for years to come.

We are asking for support to cover for the unexpected memorial costs, and any additional funds will be used to relieve the financial burden on the family as they have had to take time off work during this period of mourning and healing, and put in place supports for Dau’s siblings.
