Dating Myself - The Play

Tara and Colleen have a dream: World Peace. Don't laugh. That really is the end goal. And, at the same time, we know that you can't eat an elephant the size of the world all in one bite, or one sitting, or maybe even in a lifetime, but we do know that the only way to achieve anything worthwhile is to begin. "A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step." ~Chinese proverb. And while we are quoting, here's another. "The play's the thing wherein I'll catch the conscience of the king." ~Shakespeare, Hamlet. And that's where our play, Dating Myself, comes in. We are here to catch the conscience of society.
Who we are: Tara Danielle Dervin and Colleen Dunn Saftler are graduates of USC's drama and film departments as well as the experiential school of hard knocks. We are producing, writing, directing and acting in this original piece loosely based on Tara's original concept written and performed while at USC in Debra De Liso's solo performance class.
Dating Myself is a play about Self Love and Self Empowerment with the understanding that all external change in our world begins within, with the individual. Therefore, we want to promote self-love and self-empowerment in any way that we can. And, since we are both creative types equipped for such a task we thought, "What better way to reach the masses (that would be you) than through storytelling?"
The structure of the play will revolve around people telling autobiographical stories about their own journey into self-love through the process of dating and relationships. They will be funny, moving, heart-wrenching, poignant, but most of all authentic to the core. And that is why we are doing this, to show and showcase that we are all on this journey together, and we are experiencing very similar emotions, trials, temptations, challenges and hopefully, successes too.
And, yes, we are going to have fun doing it, duh. And we are going to use every means possible to garner your support (read: money, time, energy) for this worthy cause.
We simply cannot begin this journey without your support. Please take the first step with us and donate whatever you can. We are committed. We are excited to create a beautiful piece of theatre that will reach into people's hearts and start a conversation about the importance of self-love, self-care, personal responsibility, empowered choices and making the world a better place than it was yesterday. Simple, right?
