Dasher has been diagnosed with cancer (Chondrosarcoma). Although he had a large portion of the tumor removed, it is very likely to grow back. Radiation has been recommended.
"Radiation would require a minimum of 15-20 treatments administered daily Monday-Friday for 3-4 weeks, and all of these treatments are delivered under general anesthesia. Some degree of inflammation or acute effects would be expected, but these are typically short term and heal normally."
Radiation comes at a great expense, but the outcome is positive with the possibility of a cure.
"Chondrosarcoma is generally considered less aggressive than other bone tumors, but to find it in the soft tissues with no bony involvement is a little bit unusual. Still, with appropriate local control, reports suggest that cats can enjoy prolonged outcomes or even cure in some cases."
If we are not able to raise enough for radiation, then any amount we are lucky enough to receive will go towards future vet expenses.
I'm so grateful for all of your love and support during this time.
With love and gratitude,
Amanda (and Comet- Dasher's brother and best friend)
Ps. I'm so grateful for all of the time I've been able to spend with my boys throughout quarantine and working from home. Comet and Dasher have such a strong bond and to be able to watch and join in on their cuddle sessions makes me so happy. Dasher has even become more playful and has found his favorite toy- the spiral springs. He enjoys pushing them under everything and cries when they are out of reach. I'll continue to be grateful for all of the little moments!
