Micah's NYU Medical & Travel Costs
Donation protected
This is a GoFundMe account for Micah Arnholt's medical and travel costs to NYU Medical Center in New York City. Micah has Familial Polyposis/Gardner's Syndrome. He is 20 years old with a jejunostomy, on IV nutrition for 12 hours each day, and is generally exhausted all the time. He loves to laugh, play pranks on his doctors, and listen to all kinds of music.
While he has had this disease for a long time, complications arising from a routine gastrointestinal surgery in June of 2103 caused him to have to withdraw from university and sports. He has been chronically ill, with 6 abdominal surgeries, countless surgical and experimental procedures since then. His most recent surgery was this past June at Cleveland Clinic in Ohio by Dr. Feza Remzi.
Dr. Remzi has now moved to NYU Langone Medical Center. Micah's surgery with Dr. Remzi was long and complicated involving intense intestinal issues and mesentery desmoid tumors. It is now time for follow up visits, tests, exams under anesthesia, and more surgery. These might happen all in one visit or over several visits.
His first visit was September 16, 2106 with an exam under anesthesia on September 19, 2016. Before his exam under anesthesia happened Micah was admitted to NYU hospital with a gram negative bacterial infection. His central line was removed from his chest and a new one place 3 days later. He was in the hospital 6 days.
Micah is having another surgery to hook up his "plumbing" so that his intestines can work as normally as possible.. this surgery is also in New York. We leave on December 10th. Micah has tests on the 13th-14th with his actual surgery being in the 15th. We are raising funds for travel expenses to and from New York City, hotel and living expenses while in NYC, and doctor and hospital bills incurred for Micah.
This stay in New York could be as short as 3 weeks but could also be longer. We are looking for affordable lodging. Please contact us if you, or someone you know can help.
At at the same time, I (Micah's mom) am also beginning to incur some hefty medical expenses which makes this GoFundMe campaign to cover Micah's costs even more important. My taking unpaid leave from my job and having my own medical bills hurts us even more.
Thank you so much for your help and support. Having a chronically ill child is financially draining which is why we are asking for your help to get him the treatments and surgeries he needs in New York.
