Update 7/16/16 : Baby kitten didn't make it today. I want to thank you all for your support these last two days. It has truly helped me through all the pain and sorrow for this poor baby. I really wanted to be his mom. I'm planning on adopting a black kitty from a shelter/pound to honor this little guy's life. The vets took pity on me and gave me a discount so I have enough money to cover the expenses. Have reached out to all donors about where they would like the leftover funds to go. Thank you all again so much. Love, Dasha.
Today I was driving to work on the highway in LA and people were all going around some object on the road ahead. Once the car in front of me moved around it I was shocked to see it was a black 8 week old kitten with it's hind leg broken and NOBODY stopping to help it.
I couldn't leave him there to die. The poor thing was terrified and trying to get up but he couldn't. I found a pillowcase in my car, quickly wrapped him up in it and put him in my car. He was in the middle of the highway. All the cars behind me were honking and people even yelled "fuck you" out their windows at me as they drove past me helping him. I can't believe these people.
My boss at work took pity on the situation and allowed me and my co-worker Anna McMillan (who deserves a shout out for being so incredible today) to coordinate getting the kitten safely to an emergency vet. The vet said he had definitely been hit by a car and had been laying there for a while based off how his injuries looked. His hind leg is broken, he has a badly bruised lung and has some internal bleeding but she thinks he will definitely survive his injuries if given the care and support he needs. They said they could give him to the pound and waive the vet costs but the pound would most likely put him to death because of the care he currently needs over the next couple days.
I had to make a choice today. I think I made the right one. I chose to pay for the vet costs so he wouldn't be put to death. My heart couldn't let this little guy go when I knew he had a fighting chance. The bills are really high so after talking to some close friends I decided to ask for some help from everyone and anyone I might know that cares about animals and believes in giving them a fighting chance. This kitten has the sweetest personality. He looked up at me today with this look I'll never forget. I knew he was thanking me for saving his life. I love him and I want to be his mom if he makes it.
Please help. Anything helps, even a penny or a dollar.
