On November 23, 2018, my husband, Daryn, had a heart attack and had to be airlifted to North Knoxville Medical Center in Tennessee. He went straight to the heart cath lab from the helicopter. They found that the three main arteries to his heart ALL had SEVERE blockages. They found the artery that connects to the back of the heart was 100% blocked right where the artery connects to the heart. They were able to balloon it open to 95% blocked but that was it. They also found the two arteries that connect to the bottom of the heart were 85-90% blocked, one of which is the one they call “the widow maker”. Those they were unable to do anything to because the blockages are like cement. He is ineligible for bypass surgery because all the blockages are right at the heart and there is nowhere to bypass to. He has to have three stints put into three major arteries. This is a very dangerous and high risk life saving surgery!

Due to his heart being weakened from the heart attack, his cardiologist decided to postpone the surgery to put the stints in a few weeks to give his heart time to regain some strength. This is extremely important because they are going to put the bypass pump into his left

Due to his heart being weakened from the heart attack, his cardiologist decided to postpone the surgery to put the stints in a few weeks to give his heart time to regain some strength. This is extremely important because they are going to put the bypass pump into his left
leg artery to pump his blood while they stop his heart when they go in the right leg artery with the tools to drill out the concrete-like blockages, open up the arteries, and put the stints in. Once everything is in place, they will shock his heart back in rhythm and make sure there are no leaks. Hopefully getting his heart beating again will not be difficult but there is the risk it may not happen. Without this life saving surgery, life expectancy is greatly reduced.
He is diabetic, has high blood pressure and kidney disease, and had a stroke earlier this year. All of these conditions make this a very high risk surgery and he is off work on medical leave without pay or insurance through his employer until fully healed from this surgery. We have managed to find insurance through the marketplace for him for $44 a month with a $6,750 deductible for hospitalizations that will start January 1st. Hopefully the cardiologist feels confidant waiting a few more weeks to do the surgery. Although, he may decide it needs to be sooner rather than later.
With Daryn being unable to work, we have zero income as I am disabled and currently trying to get disability. I have Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease(COPD) complicated with Asthma, Congestive Heart Failure(CHF) with Diastolic Dysfunction, Kidney Disease, Degenerative Bone and Joint Disease, Severe Migraines, Undiagnosed Chronic Leg Pain, and have to wear Oxygen 24/7. With the severity of my health issues causing me to be unable to work, this leaves the financial responsibility solely on my husband.
We have exhausted all our reserves due to his five month layoff this year. And have used up all of the community resources available to us for this year. We need help coming up with the deductible for his surgery, as well as living and prescription expenses until he’s allowed back to work. Everything totaled altogether we are needing just under $15,000 to cover expenses until he is allowed to return to work. Which is why I have set the goal at $15,000.
The cardiologist is wanting to do this procedure as soon as possible. Maybe even as early as December 10th, whether he has insurance or not.
On behalf of my husband, Daryn, and myself, I want to express our deepest gratitude to anyone who is able to help.
