Daryl Kay Forever

On January 14th, I lost my father, Daryl Kay. He was a young 58 years old. My father has lived with me for nearly a decade after suffering a severe stroke back in 2005. The stroke decreased his physical mobility and impaired his speech, making communication difficult but not impossible. One only had to be patient and listen closely to understand him. He was a strong man who endured pain and isolation but found peace at home in my care. I was living in Germany when my father was hospitalized and because I was an active duty member in the military, I was unable to return to California to take care of him. As a result, he was placed in a nursing home, however, as his only child I promised myself and him that this would be temporary. My father stayed in a nursing home for four years until I was able to return stateside in 2009. The first thing that I did when I returned to California was remove my father from the nursing home and move him in with me and my family. He was diagnosed with testicular cancer shortly after moving in with us and had to undergo surgery to remove the cancer. Although things were difficult, he loved being home, where he seemed to regain his sense of dignity. Over the years, he faced every challenge with bravery and courage. For instance, last year he had to stay at the hospital for a week after experiencing health complications but remained unfazed by the episode and returned home with the same optimistic spirit.
He passed away at home in his bed with me by his side, looking into his eyes and wiping away his tears as he transitioned from this world for the next. I am asking for any help that folks can give. I greatly appreciate you.
Money raised will be used for private funeral and medical expenses.
Love, his son, Darol Kae
