Darts with Heart
Donation protected
Hey all, I'm Rachel Wash. A few years ago, I began helping out a charity called Darts with Heart. This charity came to be long before me - and began with a vision by Ed Wilkinson, was kept alive by all of our wonderful dart leaders in Jeff DesMarais, Harry Buckman, Buzz Barnett and Pam Paxton. Over the last few years I have been trying really hard to keep it alive and to ensure that each year we have money to support our dart family if needed, donate time/money/materials to local charities/groups, and do a yearly Christmas shopping experience for families in need.
This year, I have decided that I would like to have a bigger reach - a place where people can donate that maybe don't have the time to come to our events. A place to share our stories about how this charity and the people involved have all touched our hearts and lives, and a place allowing people to be part of something bigger than themselves.
My goal for this Christmas is to raise $2000. This will allow us to adopt AT LEAST four families and take them shopping for their holiday meal as well as other food necessities in addition to toys, coats, and shoes for the kiddos.
Families are picked by a local preschool administrator from Greenacres Daycare/Preschool in Des Moines, WA that works closely with Teresa DesMarais up until the week before Christmas. We then meet up with these familes with SANTA (Rich Molter!) and take them around Fred Meyer to pick out toys, food, clothes and other necessities. It is an unimaginable gift to be able to shop with these families and to see the kids' faces light up with a new football, barbie, coat or shoes - or, to have their parents not worry about putting food on the table. If anyone would like to shop with us this year, please let me know, we would love to have you come and experience this with us and to see how much your time/donations mean to these families!
I also encourage anyone who's been touched by this charity or the people involved with it to leave a note for us about your experience - with everyone becoming more and more busy with less time for 'the good ol' days' - let this be a place of rememberance as well as a way to give back!
100% of the proceeds will go to our Christmas Shopping event in December.
In addition to our largest Christmas-time event, other charities we've donated to over the past couple years include:
-Pets for Vets
-Northwest Center - for Children of All Abilities
-Washington Warrior Widows
-Des Moines Food Bank
-Seattle Union Gospel Mission
-Ginger's Pet Rescue
Any donation big or small will be sincerely appreciated. and though the number of people is smaller, our hearts and giving spirits are just as big - let's keep this tradition alive!
