Hello,
My name is Darryl, I am a second year student at Rochester Institute of Technology studying Psychology. I am originally from Los Angeles, California. As an individual who grew up in a poverty stricken environment, I am a firm believer in the limitless power of education. Thus far in my life, I have been afforded many priceless opportunities due to my tenacious educational pursuits. I am pleased to announce that I have recently been accepted to participate in the RIT Kosovo Peace and Conflict program for this upcoming summer! This program will allow me to learn about the background of the Kosovo conflict of the late 20th century, the dynamic nature of security in the period following the fighting, and continuing challenges to conflict transformation and development. I will be taking courses that will allow me to learn about peacekeeping and conflict resolution in a post-war environment. These experiences will provide me with new perspectives on life as well as prepare me for my future career in Psychology. In addition, this program will allow me to participate in a week-long pre-study trip to Albania, Montenegro, Croatia, Bosnia-Herzegovnia and Serbia. This is truly a once in a lifetime opportunity that I am certain will leave an everlasting impact on my life.
Unfortunately, like many great things in life, this opportunity comes with a price tag. However, I refuse to let that price tag be a barrier between me and my future aspirations. To help offset some of the out of pocket expenses of this trip, I have applied and will continue to search for scholarships and grants. Furthermore, to increase my chances of getting to participate in this extraordinary educational opportunity, I am humbly asking that you help me raise money by donating to this page. Any and all donations are greatly appreciated! In the event that you are unable to directly contribute, I graciously ask that you share this page to your family and friends.
I know that everyone faces financial challenges in life and while some are more urgent/severe than trying to earn money to study abroad, I hope that it does not discourage any of you from contributing to campaigns like mine. Instead, I hope that the potential success of this campaign and others like it will remind us of the good that can come out of supporting each other not just in dark times but in times of light and success as well.
Thank you all for your time and support!
With gratitude,
Darryl
