Darryl Scouller

For those that don’t know me I am Darryl Scouller’s sister Helen. A Chinchilla girl born and bred who still calls the little country town home though no longer residing there. Many of you from Chinchilla may only recognise my name as the creator of the “Growing up in Chinchilla” facebook page.

In the past 26 years Darryl has fought and beat cancer twice, survived a major bowel perforation, had multiple surgeries on a hand and lost 2 fingers, lost both parents, 2 and a half years ago had one leg amputated and as of Thursday last week, has now had the other leg amputated. Darryl is a type 1 diabetic which normally hasn’t affected his life much at all but doesn’t help with the healing process of wounds. On top of this Doctor's have discovered he has some form of bug/bacteria in his system that makes him extremely susceptible to infections and then add to that the Chemotherapy that has weakened his immune system.

BUT he is a survivor and has fought each and every battle including a couple of black dogs through to the end - he is unbeatable, but he is also a Scouller and Scouller’s are made of pretty tough resilient stuff. He now has a long battle ahead, getting through rehab and learning to walk on 2 prosthetic legs won’t be a fast or easy process but he has a goal to be back home in Chinchilla for Christmas.

Unfortunately, the cost of living has taken its toll with Darryl being in Brisbane since October 2022 fighting to save this leg and not being able to work. Karen has had to forfeit weekend trips to spend time with him as being on only one wage and the cost of fuel, accommodation and general day to day bills being outrageous. As a family, between mine and his, we have tried our hardest to have someone get to him as often as we can.

Darryl doesn’t want to be a considered a charity case, but I am asking if anyone can spare a dollar or two to help this family - my family it is greatly appreciated. Funds raised will help Karen and their boys get to visit Darryl as often as they can , or help to pay a car registration or phone bill. We are hoping to get Darryl into rehab in Toowoomba to be a bit closer to home but his rehab and recovery will be a long and painful process.

This is a huge traumatic experience for Darryl and his family and we want to avoid him running into any more black dogs let alone the added burden of worrying about extra finances.

So if you know Darryl, Karen, Campbell or Cody, every small donation is greatly appreciated.
