The Davenport’s Story…
A month ago, our lives were forever changed...
December 9, 2018, we found out that Darrin had a mass on his brain, while sitting in an ER room. Now granted, I didn’t really have time to process what was going on, I called Nathan to give him the news. He was at home with Cason. In that moment, God gave me a word...He will exceed expectations! By noon, we were at Children’s Hospital in Dallas, being admitted. Darrin had an MRI the following day. We were told that Darrin had a tumor in the center of his brain, that was blocking the flow of his spinal fluid (to drain). On December 11, 2018, Darrin had brain surgery to relieve the hydrocephalus (fluid & pressure) & take a biopsy of the tumor. The surgery went as expected. From the beginning, Darrin has maintained his positive attitude. He woke up with double vision, which was an expected side effect of the surgery, due to the location of the tumor. Darrin was diagnosed with a Germinoma tumor. Yes, it is cancer. CANCER!?! Our son has cancer!?! Even with hearing this upsetting news, we had peace about this situation. None of us can explain it. We then spoke to Darrin’s Oncologist about the next step. What comes next? Chemo and radiation. Other things took place during the hospital stay, but Darrin exceeded expectations with everything he encountered. Remember that word I got!?! Surgery was on Tuesday and were discharged from the hospital on Friday! Darrin was determined to go to church that Sunday, and we DID!!! We were able to enjoy Christmas this year, even though we knew what was ahead of us the following week. The week of December 27-29, Darrin had his port placement surgery & his 1st cycle of chemo. So far, he’s had no side effects from the chemo treatment. He had a follow-up this past Friday (Jan 4th) with his neurologist and oncologist, that went well. It was also encouraging that we had friends there with us that knew exactly what we were going through. Thanks Misty & Andrew! Love you both! We go back for his 2nd cycle of chemo next week. In the midst of this storm, we’ve had an outpouring of love and support. Our support system has been praying for us and going through this WITH us. The overwhelming love of God!
In the words of my 15 year old, “It is what it is and God’s in control!” Say what!?! He knows God did not give him this tumor. If he could encourage anyone going through this or anyone having a difficult time, let them know to fully trust in God. Even if just one comes to know Christ through this journey. Let me tell you, at 15 I was running from God. I thought I was never going to be enough, so why try. And here he is, my son, running towards Him! God is so faithful!! We have HOPE! We are going to be thankful and praise Him in this valley, but also do the same on the mountain top.
Matthew 17:20 - “Because you have so little faith. I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain move, ‘Move from here to there’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”
He’s moving mountains and exceeding expectations!!! He called us to be the hands and feet...the light in the darkness. So, what are we waiting for?
Thank you all for your love, support, and prayers during this season we’re going through. They are truly appreciated. We are so grateful.
Love, The Davenport’s--Nathan, Trista, Darrin, and Cason

Darrin will have 4 total rounds of a 3-day chemo regimen, with 3 weeks between each round. He is required to have his blood counts drawn throughout the treatment process. Then, Darrin will begin radiation. This will be a total of 6 weeks—Monday through Friday, in Dallas. To those who know this family, you know how humble they are. They would never ask for anything from anyone. In fact, it’s just the opposite, they are the first ones to ask if they can DO anything for anyone. With that being said, I have insisted that they let me create this opportunity for them to be blessed. Of course, they need YOUR prayers. Continue to pray for the doctors, nurses, family, and most of all, for Darrin. His faith is steadfast and we have no doubt it will continue. However, the Davenports do have a multitude of expenses they are facing, including—new deductibles, medical bills, travel, lodging, food, etc. This will put a strain on them financially. If you find it in your heart for a monetary gift, please do so through this page. All monies donated will be used towards expenses mentioned above. Remember, any amount will be a blessing to them. Trista or I will post updates on Darrin as they are available. Thank you,
Tiffany
