On Tuesday 13th April 2021 one of our much-loved teachers, Mr Darren Woods, passed away suddenly.
Darren had been connected with Aberbargoed Primary School for many years. His children attended the school and he became a School Governor. At this time he was working for Scandinavian Design but his dream was always to be a teacher. Some years ago he went for it, giving up his job and volunteering at schools before becoming a teaching assistant and then putting himself through university to qualify as a teacher, and subsequently joining us as a teacher.

Darren was loved by children, parents and colleagues alike.  He was a lovely, kind and gentle man.He loved teaching and being a part of our school. He cared deeply about his work with children and was incredibly reflective and thoughtful about the learning in his class. He really was the classic gentle giant - a big man with a massive heart - and a real softie as all the children will tell you. He will be greatly missed by all of us. 
Following discussions with Darren's family, our children, his colleagues and suggestions from our parents we have decided to create a wildlife pond and garden in Darren's memory.
The garden and pond will be created in the school grounds and will include trees, plants, shrubs, fish and benches. It will be enclosed in  attractive fencing so that the area can be used safely.
We've set a target of £10000. School will meet the costs of any shortfall and if we exceed our ambitious target we shall also invest this money in enhancing the area even further.
