Darren Rutter,
Is a Dad and granddad. He is also one of my oldest friends.
Darren started his working life as a gardener and worked through various careers as a bus driver, ambulance driver and window fitter where he then progressed to be a service engineer and site manager eventually becoming an Area Manager.
Darren is a very popular character having been a life-long West Ham United and England supporter having met and stayed close friends with supporters of Middlesboro, Liverpool and Leeds in his football travels up and down the country and across Europe.
Unfortunately whilst on holiday with his beloved Judith in October 2019 Darren felt unwell and sought hospital assistance where he was advised to return to the UK immediately, it was here he was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of prostate cancer – squamous cell carcionoma which is a skin cancer), Darren was due to start his chemotherapy treatment on 18th March 2020 however due to the coronavirus pandemic the treatment has been cancelled due to the high risk that comes with receiving chemotherapy.
Darren has looked at other options/treatment and found an available proton therapy treatment which has a good success rate. This treatment is unfortunately not available and cannot be funded on the NHS.
The initial cost of this treatment will be between £25,000-£30,000 which is a substantial amount of money to find in a relatively short space of time.
I was going to organize a social event but due to the country being on lock down I thought I’d start with this. BBQ Night @ the Brooke later.
I am looking to you his friends, family and colleagues to help Darren raise as much money as possible to enable him to obtain this treatment and give him the best chance possible at fighting his battle.
