Hi, I'm Darrell, and I need your help getting back on all four paws.
Right now I'm living at the vet because of a fractured leg and I can't start the search to find my furever home until I'm all better.
I've always been a loyal sidekick, and I need some superheroes who can help me. That's where you come in!
I have what some would call a "tragic backstory". I'm only 2 years old and for most of my life I lived on the streets with my owner, J. Together, J and and I fought, side-by-side against the elements every day and every night. We never had a roof over our heads, but that didn't matter because we had each other.
On February 27, 2017, a man and his dog accosted us. After exchanging some words, they ran away I tried to follow after. I ran into the street and was hit by a car. Part of my back leg (fibula) is fractured into a handful of smaller pieces. On the busy street, nobody stopped for me - not the man and his dog and not even the truck that hit me.
J rushed me to Seattle Veterinary Specialists (SVS) but that's when we received bad news. J didn't have a penny to his name so he had to surrender me in order to save my leg - and my life.
I went from being a pup with a loving owner to being marked as a "stray". An orphan pup, if you will.
SVS tried to find me a home but the rescues that they contacted could not afford the surgery and would end up having to euthanize me. It would be too expensive for them to take on a dog that needed surgery and rehabilitative therapy.
One of the assistants at SVS, Tyler, was with me throughout this crazy process. He met J, he knows how much J loved me, and he knows how important it is to J that I have the best life I can have.
Tyler made a promise to make sure I have surgery to repair my fractured leg so that I can go back to being a normal pup that rescues won't see as unadoptable and a liability.
I ultimately want to be someone's furever sidekick, but before that can happen I need to get better. Will you be my superhero?
Tomorrow, March 3, 2017, I will have surgery to repair my fractured leg. Thanks to the generosity of SVS, we can have the surgery before funds are raised, but it is too much for Tyler and his fiance to personally fund.
All donated funds will go towards that surgery - everything from the drugs to make it pain-free to the little screws that'll go into my leg.
Any funds leftover will go towards purchasing food and making sure I have a roof over my head somehow - whether it be paying for someone to foster me or donating to a rescue that can take me in.
