Update 8-31-23
Update: After two weeks of inpatient care and grueling physical therapy, Darrell has made great progress and has finally been cleared to continue his long recovery at home.
He has worked so very hard to get to this point!
Many challenges will lie ahead as a result of the nerve damage he has endured as well as the effects of encephalitis. Two major things that will take an unknown amount of time for a full recovery.
With all the hurdles that are still ahead, we are so thankful for all the donations that continue to come to us! Your donations are making it possible for him to focus on his health at a time when it is of the utmost importance! Thank you all for your support and for your daily prayers that are getting us through this!
Thank you,
Darrell and Erin
On Wednesday, August 9th, 2023, Darrell was taken to North Memorial Hospital in Maple Grove by his fiancé Erin, after experiencing a severe rash and a fever, and by the next day it was apparent that they were dealing with something far more serious than either of them imagined. They took a look at his bacterial cultures and performed a lumbar puncture and MRI. They treated him with antibiotics and antivirals. However, Thursday, August 10th, Darrell lost his ability to speak, was laboring to breathe, spiked a higher fever yet, and his skin color and rash worsened. He was diagnosed with viral meningitis, and the medical staff felt confident he would make a full recovery and perhaps even discharge early the following week. Fast forward to Tuesday, August 15th: Despite having made some improvements over the weekend, such as increased mobility and the ability to speak, Darrell was diagnosed with both Encephalitis and West Nile Virus. This diagnosis will mean more complications and rehabilitation, which makes this process more costly. While Darrell, Erin, and their families feel grateful for the hope that he will be okay, this diagnosis comes with the possibility of complex long-term outcomes. Any monetary support that you may be willing to graciously provide will be a relief to them.
Thank you,
from all of Darrell Page’s family
