Darrell Moore Memorial Scholarship Fund

We ask that you help us celebrate the life of Full Sail University Professor Darrell Moore by contributing to the Darrell Moore Memorial Scholarship organized by his family as a legacy to his  illustrious career.
The scholarship fund will award university scholarships to students in the Digital Arts programs at Full Sail University. Darrell’s excellence as an author, educator, and filmmaker was surpassed only by his dedication to providing his students with the best possible educational experience.Thank you for your donation in Darrell Moore’s honor.

DARRELL MOORE'S CAREER STORY:

Darrell has been involved in education for more than 28 years, designing multimedia for K-12 science curricula, teaching at the collegiate level, and creating corporate eLearning materials for the medical and pharmaceutical industries. While in college in Chicago, Darrell worked as projectionist for the movie theatre that famous movie critics Siskel & Ebert watched the films to assess and do their critiques.

Darrell started in long career from 1982- 1985 as Editor-in-Chief of Video Times magazine with Publications International, Ltd. He then was Producer and writer with Popadoc Productions in 1985 – 1986 to create original programming for the home video market including Great Crimes of the Century, an anthology of true-life crime stories distributed by MPI Home Video. From 1986 – 1989, Darrell was the Director of Original Programming at MPI Home Video And oversaw inhouse video production as well as line-producing several programs directly.  He created, approved, and supervised all the production concepts and budgets.  He scheduled internal editing and booked all online edits.  As line producer, he conceived, wrote, researched, scheduled, edited, directed, and often shot my own projects.  He also wrote package and catalog copy for the sales department.

He later shared his filmmaking knowledge as an Assistant Professor of Computer Graphics and Video Compositing at Columbia College in Chicago from 1993 to 1996 and taught twenty classes including six which he wrote and developed himself:  Video Compositing & Computer Effects Design; Computer Graphics & Video II; Computer Arts: Digital Culture; Advanced Compositing Techniques; Interactive Web Design; and Multimedia Seminar.

While in Chicago, Darrell helped to pioneer the application of new media into the global culture as co-founder, Editorial Director and Multimedia Designer of New Media with Swell Media from 1994 - 1997. There he helped introduce and integrate Fortune 100 companies into the new possible applications of new media, multimedia, www web domains, CD-ROMs, digital media with clients including Uarco, Searle Pharmaceutical, Nabisco, Philip Morris, U.S. Robotics, & Chevrolet.        In 1997, Darrell led a production team that worked with Bill Kurtis' New Scientists series from PBS television to create in-class learning multimedia for middle-school science education: "Far Out Physics," "Killer Viruses," "Super Seeds" and "Restless Earth." He subsequently helped found eldln (Electronic Long Distance Learning Network), which pioneered online education curricula for K-12.

Darrell served as the New Media Director from 1997 – 2001 at Post FX in Chicago,
a video post-production & special effects studio. There he oversaw the development of all interactive projects undertaken within the facility with clients including Accenture, Proctor & Gamble, Ameritrade, A & E, Bill Kurtis, Alligator Records, J. Brown & Associates, U.S. Dept. of Commerce, & Cisco.

He served as the Lead Developer, Chicago Media Lab from 2001-2006 where he Created online, CD-ROM and DVD-based presentations and instructional materials for a variety of client including Wall Street Resources.net, Virtual Learning Systems, Storandt, Pann & Margolis, TAP Pharmaceuticals, Sanofi Aventis, IFCJ (International Fellowship of Christians & Jews), & North American Real Estate Association  and worked at Chicago Media Lab as  Lead Developer from  2001 – 2006.

His commercial eLearning design and programming work includes such clients as Pfizer, Roche, Searle, TAP, Abbot, Takeda, Glaxo Wellcome, Sanofi-Avantis, University of Chicago Hospitals, Rush Presbyterian-St. Lukes, and Humana Corporation. Darrell Moore has written several books on film history, including "Horror Films: The Best, Worst and Most Unusual," "Rating the Movie Stars," and "The Great Movies" (12 volume genre series). He was also editor-inchief of Video Times magazine for several years. Darrell wrote, produced, and directed several original productions for home video release, including "Great Crimes of the Century," "Oliver North: Memo to History," "Chicago Politics" and "The Speeches Collection: JFK, MLK & FDR." Some of Darrell's early 16mm work, including "Quantum: A Lamentation" and "Starting in the Middle of the Day, We Can Drink Our Politics Away," are available for rental from the Film-Maker's Cooperative in New York.

He moved to Florida after the death of his brother and collaborator, David Moore in 2007 and had been employed as Course Professor at Full Sail University in Winter Park, Florida. There he served as Course Director for Editing Digital Video in the Digital Arts Degree program. During his time at Full Sail University, Darrell created curriculum and taught “Introduction to Digital Video”, “Digital Literacy”, and “Creative Presentation” introducing students to the primary concepts of storytelling, sound design, imaging, and editing.

As a tribute to Darrell’s legacy, his sisters are organizing Darrell Moore Memorial Scholarship Fund for Full Sail University Digital Arts Students to award university scholarship funds to students in the Digital Arts programs at Full Sail University in his honor.
