One day before his birthday, January 28th, 2020, the life of our gas tanker driver Darrell Jonas was cut short when a driver cut him of on Hwy 16 North in Lincolnton. Darrell sacrificed his own safety and ultimately his life swerving out of the way to avoid a collision with a careless driver. Darrell always had a smile for every one and brightened the room when he walked in. Darrell was dedicated to his work and his family. Darrell gave his all to everything he did. It is our hope that this fund will help the Jonas Family with expenses resulting from this tragic accident. We know that Darrell's wish would be that the public be more educated about the stopping distances required for trucks and that everyone take a little more care when driving in the vicinity of a gas tanker. We would like to sincerely thank the NC State Troopers, Fire Personnel and outside responding agencies for their brave assistance and caring.

DARRELL RAY JONAS TAYLORSVILLE – Darrell Ray Jonas, 62 of Taylorsville went home to be with the Lord on January 28, 2020. Born on January 29, 1957, he was the son of Carrie B Jonas and the late Bobby Ray Jonas. Darrell loved his family with everything in him. He was an avid motorcyclist and enjoyed the outdoors. Survivors include his beloved mother, Carrie B. Jonas; children, Melanie Jones and husband Brian, Andrew Jonas, Matthew Jonas; grandchildren, Caleb Bentley, Hannah Lail, Hailey Lail, Brooke Jonas; his beloved K9s, Zeke, and Piggie (blue bullies); and everyone he worked with in the trucking industry and all his Harley friends. A Graveside will be held on Monday, February 3, 2020 at 1 PM at Catawba Memorial Park with Pastor Scott Hooks officiating. Burial will follow. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12 -12:45 at Catawba Funeral Home. Condolences may be left at www.catawbamemorialpark.com.
