On the evening of June 3rd, 2019, Darrell attended the local church softball field to join his team in the playoffs. While out on the field in the position of outfield behind 3rd base, a fly ball went soaring in his direction. As he's always safely intercepted balls, this time his foot caught hold in a pot hole that was in the field disguised under a large patch of grass. Immediately, his teammates and the opposing team could tell something had gone terribly wrong. Thankfully, the captain of Darrell's team is a fire fighter and was able to assess the injury as needing professional attention, and not simply a drive to the hospital by a teammate. The ambulance arrived shortly after being dispatched to the field in Fuquay-Varina and at the condition of his well-being, they had to hook him to an IV on the scene and administer strong doses of pain relief. Darrell has two major fractures to his leg that will now require him to have not only 1 surgery, but 2. Along with the ambulance bills, co-pays and other hospital bills, charges are stacking up. Darrell works as a foreman of a labor intensive job that requires him to be on his feet as well as working with his full body. Because of this accident, it will cause him to be out of commission for as little as 8 weeks. Brittney, Darrell's wife, is a social worker for a non-profit organization and they both work full-time to maintain a new house payment for a humble starter home for them and their recently turned 1 year old son. Their son Liam attends a local day care that requires a hefty portion of their paychecks. They are a young family, working hard to make it and meet the requirements to live a life that requires basic necessities. Because of this accident, it is putting a major strain on the next 8 weeks to come, financially and physically, as well as emotionally. The "go fund me" is set at a reasonable amount considering the loss they are having to go through because of this injury, it will hardly make them "whole" in such a crisis as this. Thank you for the support and coming together to support this young family that will have to make major adjustments in the next 8+ weeks. Financial help as well as prayers are much needed in this season for this small family.
*** Update: Darrell’s employer has now committed to a dollar for dollar match for this campaign up to $5,000. This means if this campaign receives a total of $5,000 in proceeds, his employer will provide a $5,000 match to help support he and his family through this bump in the road of life. *****
Blessings to you and yours,
