My name is Nikki and I’m trying to raise money for a close family friend and her children as they are going through an extremely difficult time. There have been many times Darleen has helped me during hard times and I would love to be able to return the favour in some small way.

On May 28th, 2024 Darleen was diagnosed with stage 4 bowel cancer, having already metastasized to nearby organs. Since June, chemotherapy treatment began with all of the side effects and complications that could come along with it, including emergency ileostomy surgery to bypass the bowel.

After the first couple months, conditions degraded to the point of losing independence at home and her son, Rob knew it was necessary to indefinitely leave work in order to help his mom with day to day tasks. By this point there had already been several 4 am trips to the emergency department and lengthy stays at the hospital.

It has now been almost a year of using any savings, no steady income, selling valued possessions and stressing about making sure they can keep the roof over their heads during a time when they should be focusing on spending quality time together. My hope is that we can come together and help ease the financial burden so quality time can be spent making memories instead up until the final moments.

Having lost their father in 2016 from Hodgkin’s lymphoma, the boys knew that they would do anything they could to support their mom through her diagnosis and relieve stressors. Staying true to that, I have seen the amount of selfless sacrifice over the past year and hope we can ease Darleen’s worries that her kids will be ok when she leaves them.
