Aged 71, Gerry McAuley passed away on 15th August 2024 as a result of suicide, following a long and difficult battle against psychotic depression. Gerry was the loving husband of Margaret, father of Diarmaid, Deirdre and Ciaran, and grandfather of Odhran and Cara. He spent his life helping others both in work, where he spent 43 years with the NI Ambulance Service, and in the community where he lived. Since his death, our family has received the invaluable help and assistance of the Suicide Awareness & Support Group, based on the Falls Road in Belfast. In support of the Suicide Awareness & Support Group, our family will be taking part in ‘Darkness Into Light’ at 4:15am on Saturday 10th May 2025, an inspiring event symbolising hope as communities come together to support mental health and prevent suicide. In Gerry’s memory, all funds donated will go directly to the Suicide Awareness & Support Group, enabling them to provide vital services to help other families in the future.
