Darius R. Brunson Memorial Scholarship
For the Cape Fear Community College Culinary Arts Program. Contributions from this fundraiser will be used to establish and maintain this scholarship through the Cape Fear Community College Foundation. Darius’ family is honored to establish this merit scholarship under his name to support other students who possess a deep passion and commitment to the Culinary Arts. We thank God for you and your support of culinary students through contributions to this fund!
Darius Brunson was deeply loved by his family, his friends, and his community. One of the happiest moments of Darius’ life was when he walked across the stage of Cape Fear Community College’s Wilson Center to receive his Culinary Arts degree. From there, he went on to work with some of the best restaurants in North Carolina, including Catch in Wilmington; Leah and Louise; and with The Goodyear House (both in Charlotte). He branched out to do his own food events, many of them under his business Proud of My South. Darius’ creative passions also extended to stand-up comedy and to filmmaking. He was involved in 48 Hour Films projects and in the production Ogden The Series.
Darius was diagnosed with leukemia in 2017 and became a Warrior King as he fought to maintain an active life through his five years of recovery and treatment. Before he passed away on December 6, 2022 he left these words for friends and family: I love everyone and I thank you for allowing me to be a part of your life. And no matter what you guys do in the present and future, you keep fighting with an indomitable will, and to keep those around you lifted up and inspired. I love you and I will see you soon!
