Darin had an ischemic stroke Monday night. It was caused by a blockage or clot in the blood vessels leading to his brain. The blockage is still there but the neurologist doesn't want to remove it because the damage to the brain is already done and doesn't want to cause more damage by removing it. His blood pressure was VERY high and is still pretty high, so they are working on slowly bringing it back to "normal". If they bring it down to fast it could cause another stroke. He's slowly getting his speech and vision back. He's also learning how to eat, swallow, and walk again. Last night we were moved to the cardiac floor of the hospital due to his heart rate increase while trying to walk with his nurses and his EKG was irregular. He is working with physical therapists here at the hospital to help him walk and pretty much learn how to function again. He will be transferred to Mary Free Bed in Grand Rapids hopefully today. He will be at MFB for at least 10-14 days. Depending on his progression he may be able to come home sooner.
