Darienne’s Road to Recovery ❤️‍

I’ve always been told that I have a big heart – it’s such a beautiful compliment. I never took it literally, until recently.

I’ve been diagnosed with an aortic aneurysm that has grown too large for my heart to function properly. To prevent a potentially fatal rupture, I will undergo open heart surgery next week.

12/11/2024

Darienne has been diagnosed with 2 aortic aneurysms and has had to undergo emergency surgery. We will do our very best to keep everyone in the loop and we thank you all in advance for all of your thoughts, prayers and well wishes.

The past couple of months have been a whirlwind of appointments, tests, physical and mental exhaustion, and more than anything, overwhelming care and love.

I am incredibly fortunate to have a skilled team of cardiologists, a global network of support, and the unwavering love of my family. For that, I feel beyond blessed.

I’m leaning on my faith. Isaiah 41:10 reminds us to trust in the Lord and not be afraid, for He is our strength. I go into the procedure – and the recovery that follows – with renewed faith, knowing that God has everything under control. He always has.

Things will look different in my world during recovery. There is much healing ahead. But I trust in my medical team, my body, and, ultimately, my heart. I’m deeply grateful, in advance, for all of your love and support.

UPDATE 12/15:

The surgery was successful and Darienne is in recovery, however during the procedure she experienced a stroke which has led to some complications with her vision. She is working with neurology team at northwestern to continue assessing her progress and hopes to make a full recovery in due time.

She wanted to express her sincere gratitude and appreciate for the outpouring of love & support during this incredibly difficult time.
