Following the hugely successful inaugural 2021 Darien Alumni Art show, we are back for another year! From June 10-12, emerging Darien artists will once again be displaying and selling their pieces at the Barn at the Mather Homestead. We are also extending the artisan fair to run for both days, so that artists can also sell smaller items such as ceramics, clothing, prints, notecards, etc.
The idea for this show sprang from the pandemic, when artists lost the opportunity to promote themselves and earn an income in the wake of closed galleries and canceled residencies. We focused on those who had come up through the Darien school system and had graduated from high school within the last ten (or so) years. Through community fundraising, we were able to ensure that all proceeds from the show went straight to the artists themselves. In 2021, seventeen artists and artisans were chosen for this juried show, and went on to sell over $14,000 of their own creations! This show has not only been a wonderful way for artists to further their careers; it has also provided an inspiration to younger Darien students by showing them how the creation of art can continue to be a key part of their adult lives.
The Darien Alumni Art Show is a perfect example of how the local community rises to support the schools and the kids who have graduated from them. Please sponsor us so that we can keep this support going!
