Darian's medical bills after his heart attack
Donation protected
Darian survived a rare heart attack on February 15 in what can only be described as a miracle. In the early morning at a CrossFit gym he suddenly collapsed, his heart stopped, and he stopped breathing. A 30 year old isn't supposed to have a heart attack, let alone someone who is healthy and works as a personal fitness coach. The ventricular fibrillation that caused his cardiac arrest inexplicably seized upon him and is highly fatal. But he survived because one of his classmates immediately started CPR and continued for 8 minutes before EMT professionals took over and shocked his heart back into rhythm with an A.E.D. on the eleventh minute and restored his breathing.
The next miracle is the blessing of medical technology. A team of doctors and nurses successfully implanted a defibrillator (ICD) on either side of his heart to prevent death if a heart attack ever occurs again. Within days after the heart attack, Darian was able to walk out of the hospital under his own power, with no cognitive set backs, and on schedule to make a full recovery in the coming months.
The lingering difficulty however is paying for the enormous expenses of the medical procedure needed to prolong Darian's life.
Health insurance and some government programs will take care of the vast majority of the costs, but he still needs our help. He is prohibited to return to work as a personal trainer or anything physically straining for a number months as his body heals. This complicates his financial situation as he is the main bread winner for his young family, including his toddler son who needs surgery himself for a different medical situation.
As his family and friends, I know Darian would drop everything to run to our aid if one of us was in his position. Now is an opportunity for us to help him as he heals and, over time, gets back on his feet.
I ask that you donate what you can to help him and his family in their time of need, and pass this GoFundMe link to others you know who would like to join us in helping Darian.
