We had the pleasure of visiting this inspiring not for profit on our global trip in Australia. This is an organization near and dear to Professor Shane Dikolli and they are doing important work. We had the pleasure of visiting the Matraville Academy outside Sydney. We had an inspiring presentation from the students followed by a game of footie at the beach. It was an absolute highlight to see what The Clontarf Foundation has been able to accomplish by providing support, opportunity and mentorship to Aboriginial and Torres Strait Islander boys. We are hopeful to collectively sponsor a student for the year at $5,500 AUD--rounded up to $6,000 AUD to cover fees. (Gofundme charges 2.9% +$0.30 per donation). This $6,000 AUD converts to $4,176 USD and assuming 29 UVA students on the trip, that comes to $144 USD each-- but for good measure, rounding up to $150 USD each. Certainly open to well beyond the $6,000 AUD to help even more students-- Please share with other students, friends, family and employers if you wish.
Please consider a $150 AUD donation. Donations are paid directly from Gofundme to Clontarf. *This is Gofundme Australia so funds are in AUD. Donate any amount you wish, but for sake of ease, a $150 USD donation converts to $215 AUD.
From their site:
Who We Are and What We Do
The Clontarf Foundation uses a unique, innovative and highly successful approach to target one of the most at risk groups in contemporary Australian society – young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men.
Using the existing passion that these boys have for sport allows Clontarf to initially attract them to school, and then keep them coming. It is however, not a sporting programme – it’s about developing the values, skills and abilities that will assist the boys to transition into meaningful employment and achieve better life outcomes.
The Foundation partners with schools and communities to create ‘Clontarf academies’ which are embedded within the school grounds and education programme.
Please see their webpage for further information. https://clontarf.org.au/ And please note, per the IRS, international donations are not tax deductible.
On behalf of all of us on the Global Australia trip, we send gratitude.
