Daquari Hollins Educational Support Fund

Hello everyone! My name is Daquari Hollins and I am a game designer. It has been my dream to make games that connect people for as long as I can remember, and now I am trying to take another major step towards that dream. 

I come from a low-income, single-parent household which has not made my pursuit of higher education easy. It was only through dedication and the support of my friends and family that I now have a major opportunity to finish my education abroad in Sweden. It is an incredible development in my life, however, I am in need of critical financial aid in order to attend classes this February.


After graduating high school and acquiring my associate's degree I transferred to a university to enter into the Game Design and Development program.

My work there allowed me to apply for two higher education institutions in Sweden, both tailored specifically to game design, and I was accepted to both. Each is also less expensive than my current university. Since being accepted I have acquired many of the necessary assets required to transition to a school abroad such as my first passport, but finances are the one crucial thing keeping me from securing my position. It pains me to think I might not be able to take this opportunity after the many sacrifices my family has made and all I have accomplished thus far.


After the revelation that the avenue to succeed was still available to me through this platform, I have since given 100% of my effort to reach out to as many people as I can with this campaign.

With the finances necessary to transition I could afford to cover my migration requisite and living expenses ($21,000) as well as my tuition ($20,000) in Sweden in time to attend classes this February and remain without worry for the next 2 years, to the end of my program. This opportunity is one I have strived for all my life and in order to seize it my family and I are placing our faith in the generosity of those who care for me and wish to see me succeed.

I have done absolutely everything within my power to make this hope of mine a reality. I have held a high GPA throughout my higher education and was recognized on my college's dean's list multiple times for my achievements. I have founded and been a member of many extracurricular communities, and have been selected by my teachers and advisors for accolades including an opportunity to fly to Washington DC as part of a youth leadership program that I, unfortunately, could not afford.

Why game design:

I vividly remember being about six years old and seeing a commercial that advertised a college offering game development as a program and sneaking to the phone to call them. I was patiently informed I would need to wait to apply but I have never given up.

Game design to me is a means of exercising my creativity while also giving something to people for them to enjoy. I could not possibly separate myself from the sheer love I feel for games. They bring people together across the entire world — regardless of age or culture— with the simple expectation of happiness. I have experienced both profound joy and personal growth thanks to my history of gaming.
