Danville Grange #65 Helping Hands
We are raising money to continue the renovation of the Danville Grange #65 in Auburn, Maine.
The Grange is in the process of replacing the foundation due to the deterioration of the existing sills and rock foundation. A good deal of the funding for this replacement was paid for by the Maine State Grange due to the sale of the Sabbath Day Lake Grange. The Sabbath Day Lake Grange Members were absorbed by the Danville Grange. However, the cost has exceeded the expected amount, so the Danville Grange has taken out a loan to cover the foundation expense.
This project was supposed to take 3 months but due to unforseen complications it is ongoing. These complications have also increased the cost.
While we are proud to report that we recently became a Maine Historical Site, this also limits some of the renovation possibilities we would like to accomplish.
There is lead paint that will need to be remediated inside on the horsehair plaster.
The porch needs to be rebuilt.
The exterior needs to be painted.
The roof needs to be shingled.
The grounds need landscaping due to the local springs and the current construction.
The attic needs insulation.
Some electrical needs to be updated.
The kitchen and sale room need renovation due to the removal of the chimneys.
Hall floor needs to be refinished.
Needless to say this is an ongoing project and the Grange members provide as much free labor as possible. We also do other fundraising events throughout the year. During the winter we are usually hosting bean suppers and bingo once a month. Our last Bean Supper and Bingo was in December 2017!
Please help us save this Grande Old Building! It is a testament to the Agricultural History of Maine and our great country the U.S.A.
