Danu is a community based special school that provides an appropriate education for students aged between four to eighteen years old with a wide range of disabilities and complex needs in the Dublin 15 area. We are a small school located in a shared school building in Blanchardstown.

 

Our school is a community school, a comfort zone, where everyone feels a sense of belonging, shares meaningfully, participates actively and is accepted. In our school we want everybody – learners, carers, parents and teachers – to gain confidence and self-esteem, through helping each other to reach their full potential, enjoying each other’s successes, and allowing all to express themselves and feel heard.

 

We are fundraising to provide specialised equipment, a sensory garden and additional school resources to help meet the needs of all our students.

Our next fundraising event is a school community fundraising walk which will take place on Sunday 18th May @ 12 noon. We look forward to seeing the students, their supporting families and friends and our wonderful school staff coming together to celebrate this special day. We hope the sun shines!

We will soon be welcoming 12 new students to our school. We are awaiting the construction of modular classrooms and the money raised from this walk will be used to help provide supports to our new students and our existing students for this exciting expansion.

The vision we have for our garden includes a sheltered pergola, seating, many different features, surfaces, objects and plants that stimulate the senses through touch, sight, smell, taste and sound. A beautiful space that will be both calming and therapeutic, helping to reduce anxiety levels and encourage learning.

We would also like to raise funds for sensory processing and motor skills activities that will benefit our children.

We had a very successful fundraising event where all the school community and friends/family came together. The monies raised paid for the introduction of music therapy for all of the children in Danu. This therapy was of huge benefit and our school patron has now agreed to fund this therapy on an ongoing basis.

Donations received to date have facilitated the provision of a daily living skills area for our children. This will help our children to learn to bake and cook simple meals which will be invaluable as they move to adulthood and will enhance their independent living skills.

Every donation helps and will be for the benefit of our children.

Thank you also to the Health Services Staffs Credit Union who donated 500 euro (in addition to monies raised through this page) to buy appliances for the daily living area.
