Our dad (Dan Maes) has throat cancer

Donation protected
From Dan Maes’ kids:

After two months of having difficulty swallowing, on July 20th 2018, dad went into the doctor’s office at Denver Health hospital.  8 hours and two CAT scans later he was informed that he had a tumor in his upper esophagus measuring slightly larger than a golf ball.  On July 22nd he returned for a biopsy and on July 25th his/our biggest nightmare was confirmed.  The tumor was malignant, and he was diagnosed with stage three laryngeal cancer. The doctor told him that without treatment he would likely not be around to celebrate Christmas this year.  Suddenly our dad – our hero - was in for the fight of his life.

Dad’s Story

Ever since the three of us could remember, dad took every possible opportunity to passionately share his knowledge and experience about health, wellness, nutrition and quality of life with thousands, maybe even hundreds of thousands of people all over the world. His passion was so evident when he was in sharing mode, and he took great pride in what he always referred to as “making a difference one person at a time”.  His passion was often his obsession.  We grew up listening to his stories and insight as he shared anytime, anywhere and with anyone who was willing to listen.  Vacations, cruises, our sporting events, concerts and even sitting on an airplane. His favorite saying and life’s philosophy is that balance and moderation are the keys to a long, happy and health life.

Dad has always been committed to practicing what he preaches.  He has never smoked a cigarette.  He drinks beer and/or alcohol only occasionally.  He doesn’t do drugs and rarely ever even the legal ones.  He works out regularly, takes nutritional supplements, does occasional nutritional cleanses, sleeps well and eats according to his philosophy of balance and moderation, rarely obsessing over food and what he can or cannot eat.  We can all remember dad saying things like “cancer cannot live in an alkaline environment”, “the body is the miracle – not the lotions, potions and pills”.  “Our state of health is almost always a choice”.  And the thing he says most often is “What you think about most you bring about”.  The law of attraction is strong in his world and therefore – ours.

The shocking facts

So the fact he has stage 3 throat cancer is more than shocking.  He’s simply not a candidate.  Throat cancer normally affects smokers, tobacco chewers and heavy drinkers. And we doubt he ever spent time thinking about or manifesting having Cancer.  So why him?  None of this makes any sense – it’s almost impossible to process.  And now we realize that no matter how hard we try to understand, there really is only one reason for all of this.  His attitude and belief and conviction has made it easier for everyone around him to deal with this.  Bottom line it’s what dad has always believed and what he believes even more strongly today. He was born with a passion for helping others and blessed with the communication skills necessary take a message to the masses.  He was chosen for this.  It is part of his life’s journey and purpose.  It is a stepping stone in his path to doing what he finds so much comfort in - making a positive difference in the lives of others.  Sharing his life’s experiences in order to give others an opportunity to live a more healthy and abundant life. There is really no explaining any of this in the traditional sense. He believes it is his calling.  He believes this situation will give him the knowledge, experience and confidence to take the details of his story of a full cure and recovery to the world.  To give hope to others in similar situations.  To show the world that cancer does not have to be a death sentence, but rather a bump in the road that prepares us for other challenges we may face in our lifetimes.  Amazingly he’s actually welcoming this opportunity.  And that’s the truth.

There is no better way to illustrate the power of his belief and attitude then to read in his very own words the message he’s been sending out to concerned friends and family:

“I will beat this and in record time. Then I will use my gift of communication and my passion for education and making a difference, and I will share with the world exactly how I did it.  I am manifesting an all-natural, holistic journey free of chemo, radiation or surgery as all three come with potentially significant short and long-term side effects and risks - especially given the sensitive location of the tumor.

From a traditional medicine perspective, the experts and I have ruled out chemo and surgery - just too dangerous. Some form of radiation is possible but unlikely, although still on the table. I am well into a strict ketogenic lifestyle staying away from carbs and sugar which are primary sources of fuel and life for cancer. I’m drinking alkaline water to keep my PH levels high as it is believed that Cancer cannot survive in an alkaline environment.  And as always, I’m staying strong, lean and in shape going to the gym almost daily. I am consuming a macrobiotic yogurt that has been used successfully in curing cancer patients (oops I’m not allowed to say that as there is no money in cures), along with a product for DNA repair also having shown phenomenal results in many, many cancer studies and real-life cases. And these are just a few of the things I’m doing to kill this monster.

I’m scheduling to attend some amazing holistic treatment centers with advanced and proven laser, heat, oxygen, vitamin C and other cancer fighting modalities. Countless others with situations way worse than mine have walked away fully cured. Unfortunately for some of my treatments I will have to leave the Country as practitioners who help cure disease and illness are forced to practice and save lives in other Countries.  We’re not allowed to do that in America.  Thankfully I love to travel!

Mentally and emotionally I am extremely positive and optimistic, and I’m convinced that within just a few months I will be back to normal and fulfilling my dream of living in Medellin Colombia full-time. I look forward to re-starting the foundation that Dr. Becky and I started in Mexico and will continue renovating and building schools and soccer fields for the kids that I so passionately love to help. I am ready for this battle and I believe in my heart this is supposed to be part of my life’s journey and I was chosen to help lead the war against cancer.

I am a warrior, a fighter and an ambassador for health and hope. After all I’ve dedicated the past 25 years of my life doing just that. Now my motivation is even stronger. Please send your positive thoughts and prayers, as they will undoubtedly continue to serve as my shield of armor through this important and soon to be victorious journey. I strongly feel the power of all of the positive thoughts, energy and prayer that have already been sent my way.

Last but not least, I feel phenomenal with very little pain or discomfort. In fact, my swallowing has improved significantly in just the past two weeks. I honestly believe I’m already winning this battle and that thing is shrinking and dying. I will know soon as I have more tests scheduled both this week and next”.

What will your contribution do to help?

Dad has an amazing way of helping all of us find peace and calm with this situation.  His pride will not allow him to put his hand out and ask for help.  But we know that his care and treatments could run into the tens or even hundreds of thousands of dollars for costs not covered by his insurance.  That financial pressure will no doubt create an onslaught of the very thing that contributed to this in the first place – STRESS.  Please consider contributing to this campaign in order to give our dad the best chance to beat his cancer and then to fulfill his new dream of taking his story and message of hope, health and a cancer free life to the world.

Any donation is greatly appreciated as well as sharing this campaign. We are praying for a speedy and full recovery for our dad and hope you will join us.
