Coastal Cleanups & Homeless Hotdogs E-Bike Tour

Hi my name is Dan Rock and I’m looking forward to travel up and down the California Coast picking up trash and feeding the homeless throughout every beach and town I cross. I will be traveling on my Electric Bike from Pedego. I call this adventure my Zero Emissions Mission to leave a positive and lasting impact on all the lives I come into contact with and the world we are so lucky to live in.  

My first trip begins Sept 4 which is my 40th Birthday. Kicking it off in Oxnard, CA heading North to San Francisco with two objectives in mind. #1 HELPING THOSE IN NEED THE MOST! #2 SPENDING TIME TO CLEAN THE COAST! My halfway point will be the Golden Gate Bridge where I reverse the trip heading back to Oxnard still serving my purpose of helping those in need and picking up trash the entire way back. I plan to arrive back in Oxnard Sept 30th taking 2 weeks to plan for my second trip will from Oxnard to San Diego and third trip will cover the entire coast of California from San Diego all the way to Oregon. 

So you’re probably asking why? 

Well, I’ve always wanted to do good things in life!  I want to help people in profound ways and I’m alway coming up with some new idea to save the planet! I mean well and my intentions are good but turning my ideas into well thought out AWE-INSPIRING Full on Movements always proved to be a challenge for me. I know fear had its part to play from fear of failure or fear of what will people think of me? Who rides an e-bike up and down the coast picking up trash and hanging out with the homeless. Who am I? Some new age hippy who thinks he can really make a difference in this world! And to that I say maybe I am…

As I’ve gotten older and have had certain experiences in my life I’ve become more and more clear on what I’m truly passionate about. Two things always pop up for me. The first one is a burning desire to help the homeless probably because I’ve experienced being homeless before and the second is taking better care of the environment so that my niece, your kids and there kids all have healthy air to breath and drinkable water to drink.

  I’ve come up with 4 things I commit to doing with your help on this GoFund Me platform. And here is the more detailed version. 

1. Befriend, Help and uplift the homeless in exponential ways by actually getting to know them. I will have a tiny portable stove to cook up some hot dogs for anybody in need that accept my offer along with snacks, waters and certain staples such as Toilet paper, toothbrush, deodorant and so on…This will give me all the time I need to get to know them and establish a good rapport. If they allow me to I will Connect them with free local resources they need for there mental health and so much more. I will Learn about there true passions, talents, abilities and do everything in my power to give them the fire they need to show the world who they really are! And when they do just that! I will encourage them to do the same for another homeless brother or sister out there. Pay It Forward mindset! You can’t keep it unless you give it away!

2. Be an advocate for Recycling and Up-Cycling products into 2nd or even 3rd long lasting lives! If you haven’t already, take a look at Etsy.com and you will be amazed at what people actually buy that the majority of us just throw away daily. I want to Educate the world on how to Waste less and reuse more! Encourage are youth to make all the positive environmental changes that we fell short on. Inspire all of you to start tapping into that beautiful creative mind of yours again because there are no limits except for the ones we put on ourselves!

3. Join all the other heroes out there who silently pick up other peoples trash on the daily! Join Beach and neighborhood cleanups and or get them started! I plan to document and share with all of you how many pounds of trash I pick up every month for an entire year. I welcome any friendly competition too! You think you can pick up more trash than me, lol. Please share your giant bags of trash with me and the world to see! Who knows, maybe that will be the big awe inspiring movement I always felt I was meant to create!

4. Spread love and kindness to everyone and everything I come into contact with. This really goes with out saying, I’ve purposely taken the word hate out of my vocabulary. And I really can’t think of anyone I don’t like but even if there are people I don’t like I can at the very least be kind. It’s not that hard when you start putting it into practice. I will admit that I do have my moments when my not so pretty side comes out. When it happens I truly do my best to circle right back to kindness and at the same time I try not to beat myself up for being human, progress not perfection.

OH YA I ALMOST FORGOT…………… I will be very diligent on documenting everything with a blog, pictures and updates so you all know where your money is going and with that being said…….

     IN THE SPIRIT OF FULL TRANSPARENCY!

The first $500 of the initial funds that I receive are to purchase all the essential tools, safety gear and cookware needed for this adventure. I plan to leave my job at the end of this month and set sail on Sept 4th which will be my 40th birthday. I dont need a lot to live healthy so if I get fully funded by my birthday that should last through the end of this year, maybe more. Realistically I plan to spend about 40 to 50% of the funds feeding the homeless along with other staples and resources they might need. I do still have bills to pay but they will be cut drastically by doing this and if I planned everything out correctly I should be debt free by the end of next year. I’m not looking to pay off my debt or get rich off your donations. I do plan on finding and creating sustainable ways to cover my own living costs which means more money donated equals more people I can help. Eventually I will invest into some fun educational materials on all the great benefits of Recycling and Up-Cycling to inspire more creativity and may create a you tube channel centered around this idea. 

I can really see myself doing this for many years to come so if you do feel that I’m living up to my word, being a Beneficial Presence and making a positive impact to the world we live in than your monthly donation of any amount will be greatly appreciated. I recently learned after purchasing my E-bike that there is a large community of traveling or touring e-bikers to which many of them open there homes up to in exchange for some good conversations, a nights rest and a full charge of the batteries. So I plan to make a lot of friends on the way and also visit some really cool coastal campgrounds.

I also plan to be very consistent on sending out weekly, monthly and yearly updates as to how it’s all going as well as creating a blog. I do welcome any questions, requests, feedback or even just some good conversation to get to know each other. Especially if I happen to be passing through your town I’d love to meet you and thank you for all your support!

I’m really looking forward to this adventure I have planned out. It truly will be a dream come true for me. I plan to be an open book and you will learn a lot more about me once I get started. I made the decision to do this shortly after buying my E-bike but the general idea behind this has been in the works for years now. I’ve finally given myself full permission to live a life outside of the normal and beyond my wildest dreams!
