Dan's Emergency Surgery Bill

On Monday, August 14th, the  beloved horse Dan, "Armada" Neagu colicked. He was discovered quickly and immediately transported to his vet and taken into emergency surgery. They found that his colon was displaced and easily repositioned. The complication they encountered was that he had a lipoma (fatty non cancerous tumor) strangulating his small intestine, which caused him an immense amount of pain. They removed the the tumor and decided to leave the somewhat damaged intestine in place, hoping it will heal successfully.

Dan is less than 12 hours post operative. He is stable and seems to be rallying. He is not out of the woods yet! The vet costs are estimated between 6 to 12 thousand dollars (more with complications). This is a significant hardship for the owners due to  the economic downturn in Calgary. Dan was fully insured but his insurance ended this year when he turned 18, leaving the full onus on the family to pay.

Before Dan was purchased by the Neagus he was a school horse at Woodline in AB. Dan LOVES to compete and jump and always takes care of his rider.  He has won at Spruce Meadows, RMSJ and Paramount. Alex Neagu and him have been a solid team for many years. Her ribbon wall is a beautiful sight.

We, his lease family, are campaigning for his owners. They are distraught, scared and speechless right now. They love him so much and have taken such good care of him for years. A life without Dan is not one that they can imagine yet. It is NOT his time.  We his leasees also believe that because Dan has been so dedicated to his riders and the riding community for so many years that it is up to us, the people love him and the people who have loved horses like Dan to show up for him. He deserves all of it, and so does Alex Neagu.
