Dan's Coast-2-Coast Challenge for Thorverton CC

On 3rd & 4th August 2023, Lieutenant Commander Dan Robbins (Royal Navy) will walk 60 miles from North Devon Cricket Club to Exmouth Cricket club within a twenty-four hour period whilst fully padded-up in batting equipment to raise money for Thorverton Cricket Club. The journey starts on the north coast of Devon at North Devon CC's picturesque Instow Ground, and finishes at Exmouth CC's Maer Ground on the south coast of the county. During the walk, Dan will stop off at Thorverton CC to join in with training with his team-mates.

Dan's aim is to raise a minimum of £2,000 for Thorverton Cricket Club. Thorverton CC is based in the centre of Mid Devon & has over 200 senior and junior members. The club fields two Devon League XIs, a friendly team, a women's softball team and 5 junior age group teams. The club is completely run by unpaid volunteers. More information on the club can be found on the club's website here:- www.thorvertoncc.co.uk. The funds will be used to assist with increased running costs & to help fund the club's project to replace it's rapidly deteriorating pavilion. The project is in the early stages & will help safeguard the club's long-term future.

Dan is an active playing member of Thorverton CC, contributing to the 1st XI’s recent successes in reaching and cementing their place in the DCL A Division. Living locally with his wife and growing family he has served with the Royal Navy for nearly 13 years, including significant deployments around the world and also plays cricket for the Royal Navy 1st XI including several appearances at Lord’s in the Inter-Services competition. Keen for physical challenges he has previously cycled from Newcastle to London (over 300 miles) in a 24-hour period to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

With the startling rise in running costs over the last year Dan saw an opportunity to undertake another physical challenge to help raise funds to ensure the continued running of the club, which is an integral part of the community.

During the COVID pandemic, Dan founded his own cricket company, CAVOK Cricket which will be the main sponsor and support for the challenge also providing the equipment he will be wearing. CAVOK has also recently sponsored the newly built female changing room at the club's Station Ground.

Dan will be stopping in at the following cricket clubs en route:-

  •  Westleigh Cricket Club
  •  Newton Tracey Cricket Club
  •  Sandford Cricket Club
  •  Shobrooke Cricket Club
  •  Thorverton Cricket Club (including participating in training session)
  •  Clyst St George Cricket Club

All timings & further details will be released in due course.

Please support Dan for his monumental coast-2-coast challenge for Thorverton Cricket Club in any way you possibly can!
