Hi friends, family, and kind strangers,
I’m creating this GoFundMe on behalf of my dear husband, Daniel. Most of you know him as Danny. He has just undergone major and unexpected surgery after a painful and scary medical crisis. What doctors were treating as a routine GI issue turned out to be a completely blocked colon caused by diverticulitis that led to scar tissue and full obstruction of his sigmoid colon.
This year, he’s been hospitalized twice; starting in April with a sigmoid abscess, then again in mid-May due to complications from scar tissue. On July 8th, the day of his scheduled colonoscopy, the blockage escalated during prep and he had to be rushed to the hospital.
He’s now recovering from surgery that saved his life, but it’s just the beginning of a long road—one that includes healing with a temporary colostomy bag, both of us being out of work, mounting medical expenses, the need for ostomy supplies, and a future reversal surgery.
Daniel is a U.S. Army Iraq War Veteran. He chose to serve this country after 9/11, when unprecedented circumstances left us all vulnerable. He is already being a fighter through this difficult season of his life. He’s always been strong and resilient, but this has taken a toll. The hardest part for him right now isn’t just the pain or recovery, it’s the uncertainty of how we’re going to manage.
For those of you who’ve met Danny, you know he’s always there to lend a helping hand, whether at work or personally. He’s the kind of guy who’ll let our dogs take over the bed just to keep them happy, and who tries to act tough even when he’s scared or hurting. He doesn’t ask for help easily but right now, we really need it.
Any amount you’re able to give helps us breathe a little easier. If you can’t donate, sharing this with others would mean the world to us. And if you’d like to send a message, I’ll make sure he sees it to keep his fighting spirit motivated.
Thank you for being part of our support system in this wild and difficult time. We appreciate you more than you know.
With love and gratitude,
Priscila and Daniel ‘Danny’
