Hello!
My name is Danny Uesugi and I am currently in my third year at Chapman University. I am a pre-med, Kinesiology major.
This past summer, I was very fortunate to shadow an amazing pediatric orthopaedic surgeon at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital. All of the physicians, nurses, and patients had an incredible impact on me and confirmed my dream of pursuing a career in medicine. I was able to witness first-hand, children and their families in need of help in a country with relatively high accessibility to medicine. Some of these families have extremely limited access to sufficient healthcare. This made me consider the thought: how much worse could it be in third world countries?
Just recently, a professor exposed me to an opportunity to join a medical volunteer trip to Cusco, Peru in January 2017, where the indigenous population resides in extreme poverty. The nearest hospital is a two-hour drive away. I am raising funds for this 8-day trip to Cusco where I will volunteer as a doctor’s assistant and help to build healthcare facility infrastructure.
All of the funds raised through this GoFundMe drive will help make this trip possible. It will cover the airfare, housing, in-country transportation, and volunteer fee. The volunteer fee covers the cost of medication and patient care for the duration of the trip.
