Danny Gomez, a son, brother, friend, partner and mountain bike enthusiast, who lays in a bed at the UCLA medical center recovering from a life changing mountain bike accident, an accident that earned him a ride in the Los Angeles county emergency helicopter as he was airlifted to the trauma center.
Upon arrival at UCLA doctors were not able to perform surgery immediately due to his unstable condition, a condition he stayed in for two days. Danny suffered a broken collar bone, four broken ribs, a punctured lung, internal bleeding, a broken chest and a broken back, leaving him with no feeling below the injury to his spine.
Doctors operated on Danny, placing steel plates in his spine and were very happy with the way surgery went and now the recovery is on Danny, as one surgeon says. In the days since the May 20th accident Danny has continued to recover and staying in good spirits with added support from his family, faith and friends who’ve travel from all over the globe to visit.
Danny a New Orleans native, was forced to leave New Orleans, his home and all he owned as Katrina bared down on Louisiana. The storm passed but the damage was done and Danny packed what he had left and moved to Los Angeles to pursue a lifelong dream to become an actor and screenwriter in Hollywood.
Danny path through life has never been easy, working as many shifts as possible to make ends meet at various bars and restaurants, always showing his smile no matter how tough times were. He’s always been the friend that everyone can depend on, whether its covering a shift or a round of drinks, or simply helping out friends in need, he’s always there to help.
Danny was finally settling in, meets a great girl, moves into a great apartment and finally picks up his new Jeep. Danny loves his food, all kinds of food literally and the spicier the better, even food that gives other food poisoning. Danny is a pretty active guy, great soccer player and loves the outdoors, and on his way to better health and fitness Danny packs up his bike, straps it to his Jeep and hits the mountain trails where it all changes in a blink of an eye.
Here we are today, never thinking we would be writing about Danny and his need for help. There is not one reason that this should have happened to Danny. No one understands why this happened, but we do understand that together as a family we will hurdle this obstacle and with all of our prayers, rehabilitation, faith and persistence Danny will stand up and walk the next chapter of life.
In this life we shall never take for granted those luxuries that we so easily use, as those too can be taken from us at any time. We ask that you please donate to help Danny recover, every little bit helps. The proceeds are placed in a trust and are used to help with rehabilitation costs, medical procedures and livings expenses.
The out poor of support has been nothing short of incredible, and we as a family cannot possibly show our love for all of you, you are all a true blessing.
From our family to yours, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts
