My name is Marti O'Neal. The picture you see is my son and his grandmother. DJ loved his family more than anyone. DJ is what we called him but when he met a stranger, he wanted to be called Danny. This picture was taken 2 weeks ago when he wanted to take his grandmother to her home place where she grew up at in the mountains. He wanted to take her one last time. That was the kind of person DJ was. He would give the shirt off his back to help anyone in need.
Danny was born Jan. 19th, 1988, with congenital heart defect. He had his first heart surgery when he was just 3 days old. He had 8 total open-heart surgeries with the last one in 2022. He was a severe diabetic; he had developed numerous health problems along the way.
DJ hated going to the hospital and who could blame him. He spent most of his childhood in and out of one. He came home Wednesday not feeling good, said he was hurting. By Sunday he wasn't acting right, so I called the ambulance. They took him High Point, where they stated he was very sick, had a bad infection, and found a bleed in his brain. They immediately sent him to Baptist Hospital where they found that he had developed a major bleed that he wouldn't survive. They proceeded to make him comfortable. Then Monday morning we had to make a decision I prayed I would never have to make. We all came to the same decision that we didn't want to see him suffer. His temperature had reached 108.7 and his heart rate was 157. His blood pressure was also dropping. We decided to let him go be with his Lord and Savior.
I don't know how I'm going to bury him. He was the baby. He was 37 years old. He has an older brother, Kyle who is hurting so bad. Please put him in your prayers.
Due to all his health problems, he wasn't able to get life insurance. I know we are living in a time where things are tight. If you can give a little something to help us bury him, it will be greatly appreciated.
