Hi everyone, my name is Ricky and I am raising money on behalf of my brother Danny Norris.
Firstly, we did not want to have to do one of these for Danny's second transplant. Our family, friends and community have already been so generous throughout our Family's difficult times, we will never be able to repay it in a hundred lifetimes.
However, the situation has made it a necessity.
As most of you will know Danny had a double lung transplant back in 2017. What most of you will not know is that his body began to reject those lungs within a year. Through hard work, diligently following medical advice and instruction, Danny managed to get another nearly EIGHT years out of those rejecting lungs. However, the time has come that his body has given all it can give and he requires another lifesaving double lung transplant.
Dan has been in hospital since March 16, 2026. At the end of March, he was transferred to the Toronto General hospital to await his surgery. We had hoped it would be a very short wait, but we are now a month in and still not sure when it will happen. Dad moved here with him, but because he cannot move around without the assistance of a walker, I have also moved here to be Dan's official support person. This is of course the role that Danny's wife Marie-Eve and our beloved Mom, Jan, both played for the past 35 years. Both of them sadly passed away last year. Dad and I may be poor replacements, but with our two guardian angels guiding the way, the 3 of us are making it work, taking it one day at a time.
Even after exploring the available government assistance, the expense of the 3 of us living in Toronto full time for what will likely be nearly half a year is immense. Dan is required to have a place to live near the Toronto General for the surgery and throughout the mandatory 3-month rehab, in order to qualify for having the surgery at all. The cost of renting a fully furnished apartment in downtown Toronto is north of $5000 per month on top of daily expenses and the continued expenses back home.
Every little bit helps. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
Love you all.
