** MOST RECENT UPDATE AS OF 3/1/2016**
The Latest Update From Baby Emmett's Open Heart Surgery Yesterday. Since coming out of surgery things have been hectic and stressful. His blood pressure is the biggest issue and it's been a nonstop roller-coaster of keeping it from dropping too low.
He developed a Phantom "bruise" on his head that has since gone away on its own but it's stumped the doctors. He has Not been able to be weaned off of some medication because he can't maintain his blood pressure . He is extremely swollen and not passing enough urine to relieve all the fluids. His Journey will be long and hard Please keep him in your thought and prayers.

2/26 Update
Baby Emmett Arrived on February 25th Born at 6:40 pm weighing 6lbs 7 ounces He is 20 inches long! Mommy is doing okay but the baby was immediately taken. Mama and Daddy have yet to be able to hold him only a couple glimpses and touches. Baby Emmett had to be ventilated right away because he was having trouble breathing. He has been sedated to help him not over work himself. His Blood pressure keeps going down but he is being very well monitored for it and is on medication for that as well. When Mommy & Daddy talk to him & touch him (stimulation) he starts to try breathe for himself. He Has Open Heart Surgery Scheduled for Monday 2/29 . Please Keep this Baby in your thoughts he has a long road to go.

**Original Post**
My Best Friend Andrea and her Fiancé Todd are currently expecting a little boy. At roughly 18 weeks they were given the news that he has TGA (Transposition of the Great Arteries), a rare but very serious heart condition. This means that the 2 main Arteries in his heart formed on the Opposite side. He is able to survive in womb by the Oxygen Andrea provides, but Baby Emmett will need Open Heart Surgery within the first few days of life in order for survival, otherwise there is a 0% chance. This operation is called the Arterial Switch Operation. He also has a VSD which means he has a hole in his heart that will have to be closed. She will be induced earlier (if he stays in that long) at 39 weeks (February 24th) to insure his birth can be fully monitored and at a hospital for the entire thing. She had her last ultrasound with the cardiology team and they said everything looks good other than not being able to see the Arterial Arch, so he will have to have that ultrasound himself after birth. If it's not growing right it will be an add on surgery during the main Open Heart Surgery. He will spending roughly the first 3 weeks of his life hospitalized, not even able to be held, and on a Vent to help him breathe as he wont be able to do so on his own.
More than likely he will come home with a feeding tube and potential heart monitors.
The future is so uncertain for what this little one has to face. I am hoping this Gofund me will help take some of the stress off of Andrea and Todd and allow them to pay their bills as they have to take the time off of work so they can be at the hospital every moment they can. They need to be together and they need to be with baby Emmett at such a crucial time in his life. Please help me take the everyday financial burdens off their shoulders so they can be there for their special gift.

Momma's Letter to Baby Emmett:

I remember the excitement the day I was told I was pregnant. The first movements. Worrying the whole time about being high risk. Contractions starting at 18 weeks, and then we were told about your special heart.
It's been a roller-coaster ride of emotions and worrying and doctors appointments. Being used as a "learning patient" for medical students because it's so rare to have found your condition in womb.
All of the morning sickness, pains and fatigue I wouldn't trade. Not even here yet, but I love you more than you know.
Your brothers are so excited to meet you, and even though they know they won't be able to hold you and stay with you for a few weeks once you're here, it hasn't changed how anxious they are. Lukas said mommy can have two babies since he will always be my baby.
You will be here in about 4 weeks, and there are so many people who can't wait to meet you!

Even though it's been an emotional ride I've cherished every minute of it. Mommy and Daddy can't wait until you are here Baby Emmett

You are already so loved.
